Ground segment

Indra Space designs, develops, and operates ground segment systems that ensure control, security, and efficiency for more than 30 Earth Observation missions worldwide, including ESA’s Earth Explorers and Copernicus missions.

Ground stations and TT&C systems

Indra Space is a leading provider of ground stations and telemetry, tracking, and control (TT&C) systems, ensuring continuous connectivity with satellites through:

  • X-band downlink for image transmission
  • S-band link for telemetry and telecommand
  • Ethernet architecture for seamless integration with the rest of the ground segment

These robust, modular solutions guarantee reliable operations in any environment, delivering maximum availability and precision.

Control and data processing centres

Indra Space’s control centres are the operational core of every mission: they manage satellite orbit and attitude, plan observation tasks, and process acquired data to deliver accurate, timely information.

The gs4EO suite consists of multi-mission, interoperable, and independent modules designed to maximise mission return while reducing risks and costs.

Its flexible, open architecture enables:

  • Autonomous and secure operations with minimal staffing
  • Remote access and virtualised deployment
  • Continuous 24/7 operation with redundancy and fault tolerance
  • Asset reuse and compatibility with international standards

Thanks to its modular design, the various products can be integrated into customised configurations, from a complete ground segment to a direct reception station or a specific subsystem, supporting multiple missions.

Tools and subsystems for all phases of the mission

Indra Space provides solutions that optimise operations, reduce deployment costs, and ensure full control of the mission lifecycle:

  • Operational Data Processors (ODP)
  • End-to-end simulators
  • Payload Data Ground Segments (PDGS)
  • Flight Operations Segments (FOS)
  • EO data applications and services

Puertollano antenna park

Located in the southwest of Europe, the Puertollano Antenna Park (Ciudad Real, Spain) is a key element within Indra Space’s ground segment infrastructure. It hosts both proprietary and hosted stations, delivering high-performance connectivity for Earth observation missions.

The park operates four antennas from different networks, including a 10.2-metre antenna in S and X bands capable of communicating with satellites in LEO and higher orbits — the only antenna of this size commercially available on the Iberian Peninsula.

Its strategic position provides optimal visibility over Europe and North Africa, enabling:

  • Near real-time data download of regional targets
  • Memory clearance prior to imaging passes
  • Complementary coverage to polar stations in Nordic countries

With these capabilities, the park maintains uninterrupted communication windows and dependable, low-latency data access, enabling swifter decision-making and enhanced operational efficiency across every mission.
